E-Way Bill JSON and e-Invoice JSON: Make the File from Your Bill and Upload It
Updated: 20 October 2026
If you send goods by vehicle or sell to GST-registered businesses, you may need an e-way bill or an e-Invoice (IRN). Typing every bill again on the government portal takes time and causes mistakes. BizBahi (from version 1.13.0) makes the JSON file for you from a bill you already saved, in the government format, so you only have to upload it.
Seedhi baat: bill BizBahi mein banao, "e-Way Bill JSON" ya "e-Invoice JSON" dabao, file portal par upload karo, aur portal jo number deta hai woh wapas bill par likh do. This guide is part of how BizBahi works as GST billing software.
When you need an e-way bill or an e-Invoice
- E-way bill: needed when goods worth more than ₹50,000 move by vehicle. Some states set different limits for movement inside the state, so check your state's rule. BizBahi shows the goods value of the bill and tells you whether an e-way bill is usually needed.
- e-Invoice: mandatory only if your yearly turnover is above ₹5 crore, and only for B2B bills (buyer with GSTIN), SEZ supplies and exports. Most small shops selling to walk-in customers do not need it.
- An e-way bill is only for goods. A bill that has only services cannot have an e-way bill.
What BizBahi does and does not do
BizBahi builds the JSON file from the saved invoice, your business profile, the customer and your products. It checks the data the way the portal does and explains each problem in English and Hinglish before it lets you save the file. Nothing is sent anywhere by the app.
BizBahi does not connect to the e-way bill portal or the e-invoice portal (IRP). It does not fetch the e-way bill number, the IRN or the signed QR code by itself; those come from the portal after you upload the file. The export is available on paid plans and during the 7-day trial — see the Pricing page.
Fill these details once (so the file is accepted)
- Your business: valid GSTIN, legal name, address, city, state and 6-digit PIN code (Settings → Business).
- Customer: state and 6-digit PIN code; for an e-Invoice also GSTIN, address and city (Customers → edit).
- Every item: a 4, 6 or 8 digit HSN code (SAC codes starting with 99 for services) and a valid GST rate (Products → edit).
- Invoice number: up to 16 characters. For an e-Invoice use only A–Z, 0–9, / and -, and do not start with 0. Set your number series in Settings.
How to make the e-way bill JSON in BizBahi
- Open the saved sales invoice and tap e-Way Bill JSON.
- Check the summary: seller, buyer, HSN codes, taxable value, tax and invoice total are filled from the bill.
- Choose the sub-supply type (Supply, Export, Job Work, SKD/CKD/Lots or Others), document type and transaction type. For a normal sale, Supply and Tax Invoice are already selected.
- Choose the transport mode (Road, Rail, Air or Ship) and enter the distance in km. Enter 0 if you want the portal to calculate the distance from the two PIN codes.
- For Road, enter the vehicle number (for example MP20AB1234) or the transporter ID (GSTIN or TRANSIN). For Rail, Air or Ship, enter the RR / AWB / Bill of Lading number and date.
- If the goods go to a different address, enter the ship-to PIN code; otherwise the customer's PIN is used.
- When the app shows "Ready — JSON taiyaar hai", tap Save / share JSON. The file is saved as ewaybill-<bill number>.json.
Upload the e-way bill JSON on the portal
- Open ewaybillgst.gov.in and log in with your e-way bill user ID.
- Go to e-Waybill → Generate Bulk, choose the JSON file and upload it.
- The portal shows the e-way bill number. Go back to the bill in BizBahi, open e-Way Bill JSON again and enter it in E-Way Bill no. It is saved with the bill and printed on the invoice as the E-Way No.
How to make the e-Invoice JSON in BizBahi
- Open the saved sales invoice of a customer who has a GSTIN and tap e-Invoice JSON.
- Supply type is B2B by default. For SEZ supplies, exports or deemed exports, choose the matching type.
- Optionally add the ship-to PIN, and the distance and vehicle number if you want e-way details in the same file.
- When the app shows "Ready", tap Save / share JSON. The file is saved as einvoice-<bill number>.json.
- On einvoice1.gst.gov.in (or another IRP), log in and use e-Invoice → Bulk Upload, or the IRP's offline tool, to upload the file.
- The portal returns the IRN, Ack no. and signed QR code. Download the signed invoice / QR from the portal, and type the IRN and Ack no. in BizBahi so they stay saved with the bill.
Common problems and how to fix them
- "Your business GSTIN is missing or invalid": enter the 15-character GSTIN in Settings → Business.
- "Customer / ship-to PIN code is missing": add the customer's 6-digit PIN in Customers → edit, or type a ship-to PIN.
- "Every item needs a 4, 6 or 8 digit HSN code": open each product in Products → edit and add its HSN code.
- "Road: enter a vehicle number or a transporter ID": add one of the two before saving the file.
- "Customer has no GSTIN": B2C bills do not need an e-Invoice. Add the buyer's GSTIN only if it is really a B2B sale.
- "Invoice number must be up to 16 characters": change the number series in Settings for future bills.
Frequently asked questions
Can BizBahi generate the e-way bill number or IRN directly?
No. BizBahi does not connect to the government portals. It makes the e-way bill JSON or e-Invoice JSON file from your saved bill, and you upload it on ewaybillgst.gov.in or the e-invoice portal. The portal gives the e-way bill number, IRN and QR code, and you can type them back into the bill in BizBahi.
Is the JSON export free?
The e-way bill and e-Invoice JSON export is part of the paid plans and is also available during the 7-day trial. Current prices are on the Pricing page.
Do I need an e-Invoice for B2C bills?
No. An e-Invoice is needed only for B2B bills, SEZ supplies and exports, and only when your yearly turnover is above ₹5 crore. BizBahi shows a message if you try it on a bill without a customer GSTIN.
What distance should I enter for the e-way bill?
Enter the distance in km between the dispatch and delivery places. If you enter 0, the e-way bill portal calculates it from the two PIN codes.
Which BizBahi version has this feature?
The e-way bill and e-Invoice JSON export is in BizBahi 1.13.0 and later, on the Android app and in the web app at bizbahi.com/app. Update the app from the Download page if you have an older version.
Some features need a paid plan — see Pricing. All features are listed on the Features page.
